FACTON fields and symbols
The "Mapping" group links the FACTON fields on the left side with the Excel columns on the right side using assignments.
This section covers the individual types of FACTON fields and what you need to know when assigning them.
FACTON fields can contain sub-elements. You can open these sub-elements by clicking on the arrow at the FACTON field.
Field categories
Key Fields
The "Key Fields" category shows all of the fields required to identify the object.
Folder structure
The "Tree Structure" category helps you assign your data records to a grouping. If you use a relative group path for the Excel import, enter the Excel columns you wish to use for the relative path in these fields.
For further information on how to structure data using a relative group path, see Use Import Groups for structuring data.
- "relative group path" entry:
The relative group path shows which group paths have been assigned.
- "DE" entry:
Shows the relative group path for German.
- "EN" entry:
Shows the relative group path for English.
- "INV" entry:
Shows the relative group path for a neutral language (language-independent).
- Folder number:
Shows the relative group path for the group ID or folder number.
- "DE" entry:

The red key indicates which of the relative group paths is used for searching Data Administration under the current settings in FACTON.
You can move the red key in the settings for the relative group path. Select the FACTON field you wish to assign the red key to and double-click on the link in the info field on the lower left. The red key moves to the selected field.
General
The "General" category shows all of the fields FACTON defines in Data Administration by default - e.g. currency, cost rate or availabilities.
User-Defined
The "User-Defined" category shows all of the customer-specific FACTON fields that users create themselves.
Link
The "Link" category allows you to create additional links. To do this, assign the key column for the linked object.
Icons
The following symbols are used to indicate the FACTON fields in the "Excel Import (Bill of Material)" dialog, "Mapping" category.
Key icon
FACTON fields labeled with this icon must be completed as they are used to identify Excel data records. Defining a key makes it possible to uniquely classify the data. It is possible to assign multiple keys.
Mandatory field symbol
Mandatory fields are entry fields that must be completed because otherwise it would not be possible to perform an Excel import without errors.
Error message symbol
The Excel import cannot be started until all mandatory assignments have been made.
Mandatory assignments include key fields () which can be used to link data records or fields that depend on one another - such as origin and origin type.
The error symbol indicates that there are further assignments that you need to carry out or that one or more assignments contain errors.
Open Error Information
- Open the "Excel Import" dialog.
- In the "Excel Import" dialog, click on
next to the "Import" button to show the error information in the "Error Information" dialog.
The "Error Information" dialog opens.
Alternative:
- In the "Assignments", click on
to show the error information in the "Error Information" dialog.
The "Error Information" dialog opens.
Constants icon
This icon indicates fields that you have assigned a constant to - either a freely defined value or a value from a predetermined selection. This depends on the FACTON field selected.
For further information, see: Assign a constant
Field types
The Excel import does not distinguish between standard attributes and normal FACTON fields. As soon as standard attributes are defined in your system they appear in the assignment lists just like all other fields. These fields can have various field types and their special features are described in the following.
Lookup fields
For lookup attributes an additional node appears containing the attribute name in the assignment list. All of the fields defined in the lookup table can be found below this node.
The display value and the key value of the attribute can be assigned here. However, you can only assign one lookup field at a time.
The assigned value is searched and linked in the lookup table. If the value cannot be found in the lookup table, it is ignored; FACTON displays an error message for key fields.
The Excel import only imports lookup values that are already present in the lookup table at the time of the import. If this is not the case, the attribute is skipped. It is not possible to add missing values to the lookup table during the Excel import.
Language comboboxes
Attributes that are indicated as being localizable in the custom tool (standard designation and description) are displayed as language comboboxes. It is possible to assign an Excel column for each activated content language and import its value.
Value unit fields
Attributes defined with units in the custom tool are shown as value unit fields. These fields contain the sub-elements that correspond to the value and the units.
- Simple units: Mass, e.g. with 10 kg [value * unit]
- Combined units: Density, e.g. with 10g/cm³ [value*(numerator/denominator)]
Object type fields
This symbol denotes object type fields. Some calculation elements have various object types that FACTON differentiates between, such as activity types, e.g. employee activity or machine hours. In these cases you will need to categorize which Excel values correspond to the respective FACTON types.
For further information, see: Assign Object Types
