Excel BoM Import
The Excel BoM import enables you to directly import of a bill of materials into a project or to an existing bill of material, and to update it. This is possible for the following calculation elements:
- Assemblies
- Manufacturing parts
- Purchased/standard parts
- Processes
- Machines
- Employees
- Additional Costs
- Sub-projects
With the Excel BoM import, you can selectively update calculation elements, e.g. update properties such as purchased part prices, manufacturing times and cost rates.
The BoM Excel import can also be carried out for multi projects and configuration projects. For this, sub-projects can be imported from the Workspace Explorer.
You can also import elements over multiple Excel sheets to preserve the overview on the row-based display. Basically, you can define and import one Excel sheet per each import category.
You can specify which of these calculation element should be created by defining the import strategies. The target of an import is always the open project. The BoM is imported as a new branch under the selected assembly. If a project is selected when the import starts, the top level assembly is used as the import target.

Additional import settings enable better control of the import process.
In order to find the correct calculation elements in Data Administration, the BoM import uses a set of search criteria similar to those of the master data import. All calculation element ID's are used as comparison characteristics.
The same constraints that apply to the master data import also apply to the BoM document to be imported.
